In What Area of Your Life is Resistance Holding You Back?

We have all heard the phrase “What you resist persists”. Many, like me, may have chalked it up as feel-good mumbo jumbo that doesn’t really mean anything. I was so wrong! Based on things I have recently learned, resistance is the source of much of the unhappiness in my life.

A Brief History

Looking back, I can see that I spent much of my life coming from a place of resistance. I battled the control that my ex-husband tried to wield over me. I resisted the hierarchical structure present in my job where I worked for a County. I walked around feeling separate and misunderstood, never really part of the group, always feeling like an outsider; another form of resistance. I even resisted the concept of unity, a core structure of the universe.

This all changed in 2019, after reading books about quantum physics and energy fields that opened my mind to new possibilities. This led me on a path of self-discovery, a path that brought me to Europe to attend Mindvalley University (MVU) in Pula, Croatia.

At MVU we were taught many things, but most importantly we were taught that we are responsible for creating everything in our lives. Our spirits are eager to take in experiences, spirits sometimes agree to experience adversity. It is in our human existence that our spirit experiences things that can cause growth in our human psyche. Once the lesson is integrated, the adversity can end. The bottom line of this premise is that we invite adversity into our lives as a method of learning.

The Revelation

That week I had been sick, unable to attend my courses, unable to speak. I had received energy healing and attacked the cold with holistic medication, but until I learned my lesson from this illness, it could not be released. One night I had a revelation, a pulsing headline in my head, that said “Resistance is Futile”, accompanied by a wealth of information.

I had been resistant to this illness. I fought it, through massive doses of vitamins, various energy healings, gargling with salt water, drinking hot water with ginger, lemon, and honey; among other remedies. I wanted to be better, I didn’t have time to be sick. I was missing classes and fun activities, which made me sad. All of this adds up to resistance.

In my half-asleep state, while this lucid dream unfurled; I thought, what if I just allow the illness? I had a picture in my mind, of me standing in a meadow with my arms raised in ultimate surrender to the universe. As soon as that image appeared, I could feel a change in my body. I then visualized the cells in my sinuses being returned to normal function. I next visualized a white light filling my head.

In the morning, I felt much better. I no longer had a fever and my sinuses started opening. My throat was no longer sore, and my voice began to recover.

The Lesson

I came to understand that I have brought unhappiness into my life, and the life of loved ones, through my resistance. If by allowing, I could heal an illness, then what other things may be possible when I surrender to the process? My intention for 2019 had been to Allow, but now I am upgrading my intention for the year to Surrender. In what areas of your life would you benefit from the practice of surrendering?

Sending you blessings…
